Yesterday I went to the Auckland Museum to see the World of WearableArt (WOW) exhibition. These were a few of the prizewinning entries from the  WOW competition that is held every year. Entries come from all over the world and garments are made from all sorts of things, as you can see from some of the photos above.  There is an amazing amount of work and detail in some of the garments, that must take years to make, and must require an amazingly active imagination.  For someone who is a tactile person, it is very hard to not reach out and touch these garments, especially the cloaks in the first photo. The one on the left was made of thousands of almost paper thin ceramic feathers.  Some of the Bizarre Bras create quite a talking point too.

Well worth a visit if you are in Auckland.

  1. Hi Julie, hope you had a great Christmas etc. :-) I went to the WOW awards in Wellington last October and was blown away by it all. It was a very expensive show but worth it as a 'oncer' for me. The talent was breathtaking - but as a very practical sewer I struggle a bit with the purpose of it all.

  2. Completely incredible! I am always so fascinated with what people can create. This exhibit is one that I would love to see as I am taken when it comes to turning found objects into an installation! Just incredible and your photos are brilliant!!! So glad you were able to see this friend! Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Nicole xoxo

  5. Amazing work! I imagine the one with T-Mobile coins must be very heavy. They are more like sculpture aren't they. xx
