Wednesday WIP

With the cold wintery wet weather we have been having over the past couple of days, I could think of nothing better to do than tuck myself away from children watching movies inside, and head out to my sewing room.

I contemplated starting a new project, but truth be told I couldn't think of anything I really wanted to make, so I pulled out those SWAK swap envelopes that are on my finish-along list and started piecing them together.

It is quite amazing how each block differs, considering we were all using the same pattern,  All should be 7 " square blocks, some are marginally smaller,  Some are sewn together with tiny stitches (recommended for paper pieced objects) which makes ripping the paper off so easy, others are normal stitch length.  I do apologise to any of my fellow  SWAK block recipients, whose blocks I forgot to decrease the stitch size on.  Different types of paper have been used  as the foundation piece too, and this sometimes seems to effect how the block sits - firmer or with a wee bit of stretch, and some seem to have the fussy cut flap glued down before sewing.

Anyway, after a lot of deliberating about colour  and block placement, all 36 blocks have been sewn together, the foundation papers are slowly being ripped off, and I am well on my way to completing my first Q2 finish-along goal.

Linking up with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

  1. Hi
Those blocks look superb. Cant wait to see them all together.
I have to confess I spend time tracing my foundation piecing patterns onto interfacing. I hate that business of pulling out the paper.

  2. I find it fascinating how little variances create such huge differences when combined! This is going to be such an amazing piece when it's all done!

  3. It is amazing how using exactly the same pattern and instructions can give just marginally different results even if everyone is very careful to do the same thing, just shows that every piece is handcrafted and not just reproduced automatically doesn't it! xx

  8. Yes, it is something the way one block looks so different with different fabrics. This is a great scrappy quilt and I love your scrappy choices - beautiful! And also the scrappy backgrounds. As annoying as picking out all those papers are - it's also so fun. :-)

  14. I am just in love with these blocks and the overall look so far. The combo of brights and low volume/neutrals is a current favorite color combo for me at the moment, and this collaborative work in progress is just so neat!

  15. I have never seen those SWAK blocks before and I am in love with them! I have always had a crush on fancy stationary with printed envelope liners. This quilt is going to be just fabulous.
