My husband said to tell you the silver marks are vine scratches. He said when the cucumbers are growing they are rub against the raspy / prickly stems and end up with the silver scars. Apparently (DH said) its like cutting your name in a young pumpkin and watching the scar as the pumpkin grows. So hope that helps, DH is an ex market gardener and comes in handy at times.
