Weekending

This weekend is the beginning of the school holidays in New Zealand.  The Scout and Mr J are in Cambridge helping my father in law move hay.  Miss B and I spent Saturday with her Scout Troop doing a sausage sizzle to help fund raise for the Scout Jamboree  in Fielding at the end of the year. Luckily the day was beautiful and fine.

I have a fabulous pile of new library books to work my way through - currently I am reading Almost Amish, all about simplifying and slowing down your life.  Very thought provoking.

I have been the lucky recipient of lots of lemons and grapefruit, so on Sunday I made a up some Lemon Curd and then tried a new recipe for the grapefruit - Ginger Grapefruit Curd. The ginger taste isn't as strong as I thought it would be, possibly because I used crushed fresh ginger from a jar.  Miss B and I still enjoyed it on toast with a cup of tea for lunch.

Some sewing got done too.  A little purse which will attach to your key ring.  Great for when you don't want to take a full wallet or bag with you.  It will fit a drivers license and small amount of cash in it.

Q3 Finish-A-Long

I'm joining up this quarter in the Q3 Finsh-A-Long at She Can Quilt.  I have two projects I want to finish.

Firstly my Ruby Nine Patch quilt - I have 17 large blocks that still need to be handquilted , then the border which maybe machine quilted if my sewing machine co-operates and the binding (which I have already made) to attach.  I would like to be able to use it at least for a couple of weeks this winter.

My Salt Air placemats - all they need is for me to find some suitable fabric,  make some binding and attach it.

Of course there will no doubt be other small projects distracting me to.

Pinwheel Pouch

Rather a cold bleak day today, so I moved the sewing machine into the house from my sewing space and sewed in the warmth.  I am very pleased I was able to finish the pinwheel pouch for my sister.  The pinwheels are from 2 1/2" fabric scraps and the backing and lining are from Cuzco by Kate Spain.  I didn't have enough linen to do a plain back so I decided to fancy that up a bit too.  The pouch is about 9" square - so hopefully it will be large enough for Janine to keep some small crochet projects in it  for when she is at sports training with the kids. Will post it to you next week.

Wednesday WIP

 

Fifteen 2" pinwheels completed from a range of fabric scraps.  I'm making my sister a zippy pouch inspired by this fabulous one on Flickr.  I think I would love to make myself a cushion out of larger pinwheels using Kaffe Fasset fabrics one day.

And something a little different - we live very close to a small golf course, the other day behind our garage, look what I found stuck in a tree.  I guess someone is looking for their ball .
