Weekending

I've been a little miserable with a cold all weekend, I have managed to do a little sewing, and work on my Bird Dance project, as well as lots of  reading, and spending time on the computer.
  • Some gorgeous little 3" blocks for my medallion quilt - though I am not sure if I will use the flower blocks in it, at this point I am thinking the pale silvery background is now to light and bright.
  • Border one is completed on my Midnight in the Tulip Garden Medallion
  • starting my 15th bird - halfway there now.
  • Lots of lovely applique and embroidery inspiration here, (I am so lucky Auckland Libraries has such a fabulous craft section) I am wondering whether the botanical applique patterns would transfer easily enough to be done in felt rather that silks,
I'm currently reading  Summary Justice by John Fairfax, a British legal thriller that I am enjoying immensely, and for a change of pace Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier set in 1800's America in the Cherokee nation.

This article caught my eye and made me think -  and yes I am probably one of the mediocre

Also planning  something new, and hopefully exciting with Linda from Kokaquilts, the big reveal will be April 1.

Have a fabulous week!!

  1. What a shame you have been a bit miserable. Looks like some paper piecing, which I was doing today also, these will look fabulous with your medallion.

  2. I'm love your tulip quilt start. What lovely eye candy those books are. I have a big appliqué quilt to tackle this year. So far all I have done is read the pattern! I'm not quite sure what technique to use. So many different ways to do appliqué.

  3. I'm sorry to hear you haven't felt well Julie! But if it was a good excuse to slow down and read, rest and hand stitch, that has to be a positive from it! Your medallion quilt is coming along nicely, as are your birdies! You are still tempting me to buy this pattern! Maybe I need it now! And mediocre is far too harsh a word to describe our 'normal' lives! Maybe that's what most of us aspire to.....

  4. Oh my, I just read that article about 10 minutes before reading your post, talk about funny. I thought it was a great article.
I really needed to read it. I can be hard on myself.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  5. I too have just read that article, made me almost cry. A simple full filling life style, what many of us aspire to I'm sure. And sewing... I love your little blocks, very pretty.

  6. I'm trying to catch up on reading blogs, it's always a delight to see a post from you Julie. The article you gave us the link to comes just at the right time for me personally. What a great piece of writing, this needs to be printed and up on the wall - thanks for sharing this. Hope your cold is gradually disappearing, the only good thing about it is that you have had time to just sit and read and sew.

  7. I hope you are feeling a bit better! You've made wonderful progress in spite of feeling poorly, I think. The tulip blocks are adorable! Don't discount them just yet - they may work... Medallion border 1 is great!

  8. Oh... I LOVE those fussy cut cornerstones! (ok, you had me at AMH) The tulip blocks are fun too! Hmmm... I've been doing a lot of applique these days, and am so wound up to be working on pattern number 4! I hadn't really planned it that way, but it's a medallion quilt (inspired by your idea) and I'm loving it! Get well soon and looking forward to border two!
