Weekending

• Twiggy branches have been found for my sewing room and butterflies have been attached, and some  for a vase in the house
• I made start on my EPP Cart Wheel - and changed my mind on the previous post's colour musings
• some days all the good books arrive at once - perfect for perusing in front of the fire
• another little block finished for my sampler quilt

Weekending

 

 

 

 

Well I have survived my first week of training, commuting and fitting it all together in my life. On Friday I was actually working in my local library, putting some of what I have learned into practice.  It was nice seeing some familiar faces and knowing where everything was located.

This weekend I have:

• enjoyed the chance to relax with a cup of my current  favourite tea and a new magazine
• hoped that we would get rain - there are so many cracks appearing in my lawn
• been especially pleased that my Paint Brush Lily is starting to flower
• baked Passionfruit and Coconut Slice - enjoyed by all except Mr J.
• started cutting 2.5" x 6.5" strips for the shirt quilt I am making Mr J, after realising the year is already going far to quickly.  So many more strips to cut though, he also wants some blocks constructed from the pockets too.

Other suggestions for using up excess passionfruit will be gratefully received.
Also can anyone recommend any good thriller/adventure/mystery books for me - nothing that will scare when I'm home alone though.

Reading

 

The pile of books on my bedside table never really seems to get any smaller.  The titles may change - the pile is always five or six high.

Currently I am reading  and enjoying The Spymistress, set during the American Civil War.  It is based on a true story about  Elizabeth Van Lew, who set up a spy ring aiding the Unionists during the war.  I have been learning a lot too, about the  American Civil War - I knew it was between the North and South states, but never knew the reasons behind it.  This novel is also a change of direction for author Jennifer Chiaverini of Elm Tree Quilts series, she has written another historical novel called Mrs Lincoln's Dressmaker, which I am hoping my library will have.

This is why I love my Library

 

A wonderful pile of  new fiction  from some of my favourite authors on my bedside table, I'm just finishing rereading Prodigal Summer, and then I can start on these. All sorts of crafty, quilting ,stitching and cooking goodness on my coffee table.  I have just signed up for a couple of swaps through Flickr, one of which is a Christmas Table runner, so I am especially pleased to have Simply Modern Christmas on hand for some inspiration.  Also very interested to read Kate's book Vantastic, inspired by her familiy's caravan trip around Australia.

There are about 55 libraries in the Auckland area,  which I am able to access for books to be sent to my local library.  I make the most of this, at any time I usually have about 20 books on request, and between all four of us in my family we must have at least 30 books out at any one time.  I often see books recommended on blogs, so will suggest the library purchases them if they aren't in their system - this means I am first to get them when they do.  I love being the first to read a book.
