Sew Together Bag in Liberty

My EPP Liberty Sew Together Bag is finished, ready to be filled with all the bits and pieces I need for more EPP projects.  The lining and pockets are from various Art Gallery fabric collections, and I have attached a lovely piece of hand dyed wool felt for a needle rest.   I had Liberty binding left over from the binding I used on my Bloomsbury Quilt (yes I have finished binding it, just more quilting required) so opted to use that on the bag, rather than faffing around making up more.

This bag was not without it's making dramas. The zips were unpicked a few times, due to not reading the instructions about lining/pocket placement.  I was tempted to give up at one point, but am now quite pleased with how this has turned out and am now dreaming up a new EPP project  for the summer holidays.

Sew Small

I have temporarily packed away the Magic Stars quilt for a little while, in the hope that I come back to it with fresh eyes and ideas.  In the meantime I am working on a couple of smaller projects:
  • those Liberty hexis, I was beginning to join a couple of weeks ago are now all finally stitched together, and have been quilted too, they will be turned into the exterior of a sew together bag for my EPP projects.  Fabrics for the lining and pockets are from the stash too.
  • a little more hand sewing on some felt Christmas ornaments for a friend.
Roll on the weekend - I have lots of sewing planned.

A Handmade Christmas

Now that Christmas has been and gone, the gifts have been unwrapped and live with their new owners, I can finally reveal some of the secret sewing I had been doing, that I hadn't been able to show on here.  First up two gifts for my sister:
  •  a large fabric bowl, for all her fabric scraps.   Now this is a big bowl, at least 8 or 9" high ( yes I forgot to take note of the dimensions when I made it) I used the pattern from Nova as a basis and just made my own size. The paper pieced word comes from here.  Lots of bright cheery fabrics for this.
  • A Sew Together Bag - lots of scraps including Bonnie & Camille, Heather Bailey and Carolyn Friedlander.  The inside is lined with a fabric from Heather Bailey's Up Parasol range, and inside pockets in a minty dot.
  • Finally a pouch for my Mum - she is travelling to Europe next year, and wanted a pouch to put in her day bag.  I had the perfect lining fabric and then filled the pouch with some little goodies for travellers, like ear plugs, lip balm, hand cream, tissues etc.

What did you make for Christmas gifts?

Sew Together Bag - Finished

This was not the easiest bag to make. Mine is not perfect, but on the whole, I am pleased with how it has turned out.  My seam ripper was used a lot. I now have a great little pouch for using when traveling and taking crafty projects with me.  I may even make another one or two later in the year. However next time I would use mid-weight interfacing in the pockets rather than lightweight, and I may even try interfacing on the exterior, rather than pellon.  I couldn't find 9" zips for the pockets,so just used 10" ones that I trimmed.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Wednesday WIP

I have been slowly working may way through the pattern for my Sew Together Bag.  I have all three inside zips installed and pockets made,  A little pin cushion has been added on one side and a  felted needle rest on the other. The lining and exterior are now together and the side binding has been sewn on. Now only the  18" zip and binding needs to be attached to finish it all off.  I think because I made the exterior quilted, it has made it a little to thick to top stitch nicely, so I am hand sewing the binding down as I do on quilts. All going well I hope to finish it tomorrow.

Linking up to WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.
