We were hiking into to the Waihaha Hut, a track of approximately 9km, that follows along the Waihaha River Track. This is a beautiful track, relatively flat, with lots of different types of scenery. My favourite part was the last hour or so of the hike going through the ancient rimu forest, being dwarfed by giant trees. I also found the many different berries growing throughout fascinating.
The hut sleeps 10, and there were some really nice people staying there, so we enjoyed some interesting conversations.
It was so nice to escape Auckland, meet new people and experience a different part of the country.
