• Some baking - this ginger, almond and oat slice

• Reading -The Embroidered Garden by Kazuko Aoki.  This pretty book almost makes me want to take up embroidery

• Another sewing day - where I was surprised with an early birthday club gift from Gwyneth. Remember this wool that I bought, to make a shawl, which I started, and repeatedly undid.   When I discovered that Gwyneth was a knitter,  I gave it to her to use.  I figured that there was no point having it sit in a bag in my cupboard.  She surprised me with a beautiful shawl made out of it. The photos just don't do it justice.

• Some sewing hand work was done, Mel was cutting out circles for her modern wedge blocks, I was making my Dresden blades. Rachael was cutting fabric for another civil war quilt, and Gwyneth was knitting another pair of beautiful socks.

One more week of holidays to go here - have a great week what ever you may be doing.

Weekending

 

 

Queen's Birthday Weekend means a long weekend here.  With the house to myself, I had three days of sewing, reading, cooking and relaxing planned.  Needless to say plans have a way of changing.  I got rung up on Saturday morning and asked if I could work, because they were three people short.  So I  ended up with a two day weekend anyway.  I have still managed to do all that I planned, just not the quantity of sewing I wanted to.

• I have made a start on my flying geese, only three more rows of 20 to sew together now
• I purchased a skein of 2 ply merino wool for a shawl/scarf type thing, what a mission, winding it into balls.  I ended up with three balls after a few small tangles mid way through. Love the colours of it though.
• Fresh parsley, rocket and spinach from the garden, waiting to be used in a Barley and Roast butternut salad for Sundays dinner.
• Some more sewing on my Warm Wishes swap project - I have completed the exterior and all the interior compartments, now just working out how to get the binding and zip on.  Wish me luck.

Flower, Quilt, Knit

Found on my morning walk - a flower from a Gordonia Tree or Poached Egg Tree. I love the crinkled petal edge.

Now that all my swaps and sewing for the Hottie Project are completed, my mission is to attack this pile of loveliness -  my Ruby Nine Patch Quilt.  The top is made it just needs batting, backing, quilting and binding.  Always a challenge for me on my machine, cos I don't have a walking foot.

Progress is being made on my knitting - it is just something I pick up and do a few rows on when I have a few minutes spare during the day or in the evening.  It is not as orangey looking in real life and the little white dots you see on it are actually tiny red sequins attached to the wool. The wool is King Cole Galaxy DK in red.

reading a newly discovered magazine (thanks for telling me about this one Mum)

knitting a few more rows on a new project, which will hopefully be a Christmas gift

sewing and hopefully finishing a hottie cover for Miss B

Queen's Birthday Weekending

Mr J and I have had a busy yet relaxing long weekend.  There has been cycling and walking around the neighbourhood, a trip to the  Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Baking - quick and easy bread from this recipe and lunchbox treats for the school week.
 

Sewing - a hottie cover for Mr J and my Mug rug swap completed ready to post

Knitting - one glove completed and the other just about done.

Reading - nothing like a little French Chateau and lifestyle envy.

Now we are just waiting for the campers to return, no doubt tired, and with lots of dirty washing and exciting happenings to tell us.

Friday

It is Queen's Birthday weekend in New Zealand, so that means a three day weekend.  The Scout and Miss B will be away at a scout camp - tenting too, so Mr J and I will be at home.  In preparation for the weekend I have got a pot of  vegetable soup bubbling on the stove, for easy meals.

I have started knitting some fingerless gloves for me, after Miss B appropriated my other pair for school.
The wool I am using is Shepherd 8ply Possum wool, a mix of merino and possum. The pattern comes from Knitting Little Luxuries, and knits up quite quickly.
