Scenes from my Week

From the sewing room
  •  the scrappy sampler quilt top is finished, and I feel a lot happier about it, in fact I would even say I like it.  Now I just need to find or make suitable backing fabric and turn it into a quilt.
From the garden
  • my zinnias are starting to bloom - I love the colours and having fresh flowers to pick for the house
From the artist
  • Miss B decided to immortalise those zinnias in water colour - she has done a wonderful job too.
From the broken house (proof that my house and life is not picture perfect)
  • the downside of living close to a golf course - it has now been fixed and  thankfully, at no cost to us
  • more repairs after the hot water cylinder leaked yet again - the builder has now finished his part, just the tiles to be relaid now.
From the kitchen
  • Courgette/Zucchini Cake from Digby Law's Vegetable Cookbook or here.  Note:  My recipe in the book used 1 cup of oil, the recipe I have linked to uses 1/2 cup.
From the book pile
  • I really enjoyed this book.  A rediscovered art masterpiece, lots of interesting characters, some history and a smidgen of romance.
What has happened in your week? Have you read any new and interesting books lately?  Is any one on GoodReads?

  1. A mixed bag Julie especially with the damaged house! Your scrappy sampler quilt has turned out lovely, yo've tied all the blocks together well.

  4. The scrappy quilt top is stunning, I am always in awe of your talent. The broken glass and leaking water cylinder don't sound good.

  6. The quilt is really great. What do you do with all of your quilts? Do you have a place for them? I'm on goodreads under Jill Buttenhoff. I'm looking for good book suggestions. I already placed the book you talked about in this post on hold at my library :) :)

  14. Aren't the zinnias wonderful and what a smashing painting by your daughter. With the glut of Zucchini coming from my garden I think I will try your recipe, sounds yummy!

  15. Congrats on your quilt top finish! I love it! I think you could use just about anything for the backing... even go scrappy! So many fun details!

Yum! I make a zucchini bread that is probably very similar - one of my favorites, especially with butter. Looks like a good week minus the broken window.

  16. Not much action here apart from daily tennis shifts, which thankfully lessen after today! Needless to say, no sewing or reading time except for a page or two of a Louise Penny novel with Inspector Gamache. Your zinnias are beautiful as is the sweet water colour of them!
