Wednesday WIP

So the Scrappy Sampler Quilt is still a work in progress.   I am still working on piecing together all the random  sized blocks with mainly low volume fabrics thus making larger blocks, which means they are easier to piece together.  No Y seams this way. I think that makes sense.   I am still not sure that I  like what I am creating here.  I think I am so used to sewing to a pattern, where I may add a border, or use different colours, to make it mine.  Improv sewing  is really a lot harder than I realised. A couple of blog friends, suggested adding some solids,to break up the busyness of all the different fabrics and patterns,  so I used some ash coloured shot cotton strips, randomly in some blocks, they seem to add a bit of  cohesion to this mess.

I am still aiming to get the top finished by the end of January, or else I think it will end up in the too hard box and never get done.

  5. Wow. This would be really hard for me, too. I think it's turning out great, though, and I want to copy some of those sampler blocks--they are cool!

  9. I think that it looks fabulous, but I can understand that if you are used to working to a pattern going "off piste" and doing something on your own might be tricky. It is like trying to be random with colour isn't it. Hope that you enjoy it though! xx

  10. I like the look of it, but wonder whether it might help to see it in 'portrait' format, rather than landscape? No, I am thinking that your photos don't show the quilt in its entirety....... Could you take another one of the whole quilt and look at it as a black and white photo? That may help with the balance of the tones? Hand quilting with a grey thread will make it more cohesive too! You have some very special fabrics and great blocks in there! Keep going, its fantastic.

  11. I love the fabric with the writing on it. This is a really neat quilt pattern - kinda random - a feast for the eyes. I can't stop looking at it.
