Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE

Thank you to everyone who linked up in out first Sew, Stitch, Snap, Share.  Linda and I were quite overwhelmed at the response.  Apologies to everyone who had trouble linking up, Inlinkz have said the problem is now fixed, so fingers crossed you are all able to link up easily this time.

Again not a lot of sewing for me.  Auckland Libraries staff have finally been given the details of our work restructure package, resulting in all staff having to reapply for jobs, which thankfully is now done. Now we are just waiting to hear what job we get and which library we will be working at, so it is quite a stressful time at present.  Needless to say that has taken up a wee bit of quality sewing time.

Some good news though, is that I have booked a trip to visit my sister in Australia in June.  Of course a trip needs new accessories, so I made a quick and easy little travel folio, just big enough to hold my passport, printed tickets, insurance documents, boarding pass and a pen. Its girly and a little frivolous, and totally different in colour to anything that would be in my bag, so should be easy to locate in my luggage now.

I used a Tilda floral fabric for the outer and a co-ordinating text fabric for the inside, vertical quilting to hold those layers together then a simple pocket was bound and stitched to the interior.  Bound with a Victoria Findlay Wolfe fabric and tied with a gold toned ribbon. Approximate measurements are 8" x 10".

Now for a travel related question, am I allowed to do hand sewing while flying?

So what have you been working on over the past few days.  Whatever you're sewing or stitching, link it up here.  Just follow these guidelines:
  1. Link up from any post from the past week that features something you have been sewing or stitching,
  2. Somewhere in your post, please link to this post.
  3. Please comment on a couple of the other Sew,Stitch, Snap, Share links - its fun to receive comments from new people, and we are trying to encourage people to read blogs and keep blogging too.

Thanks for joining us again, I can't wait to see what you have all been creating.

  2. How exciting! Are you coming to Melbourne? I'd love to meet up for a coffee if you are? Your travel folder is lovely! I think small scissors are allowed on planes now, but I've heard people use empty floss containers, with that little blade to cut their thread! Saves having the scissors confiscated at security check-in.

  3. Lovely little travel folio! If NZ has milk bags I have brought the bag cutter with me and it has been ok for flying. (This may be a some-of-Canada only thing lol)

  6. Fingers crossed for your reapplying for your library job! I love your trqvelpouch. What a clever idea. I always have a bright pink diary, purse and cell phone cover so I can quickly spot them in my handbag.

  7. What a great idea and the fabrics are so charming too.:) I just got back from a trip and was too nervous about taking my handwork on the plane. However, I've heard that they won't confiscate needles or child scissors. Might be worth a try!

  9. Exciting to be off to visit your sister :-) Lovely little pouch and so much more glamourous that the ones handed out by the travel agents! I have taken needles on the plane in the past and one of those clover thread cutters - although a dental floss container is also good for cutting threads. These days I just take a crochet project as I find this to be an easier thing to cope with, with the light and the bumpiness on planes! Good luck with your job aplication.

  14. Beautiful!
    Sister Time .... yippee!
I have to tell you, while my sister and I were together at the hospital we had lots of time to catch up. We did get kind of silly at times, even during the stress of everything. Some of the others in the waiting room actually thanked us for laughing and cheering the place up. :-)

Sending a hug regarding the job situation.
